And from that dream Seattle’s own Toys In Babeland was born. Check it out!
The Role and The Rise of The Adult Toy Shop
The reallly great thing
about the adult sex toy shop is that customers are offered more than just a wonderful assortment of some of the latest and hottest sex gizmos-always have been. In fact, during their rise to sexual power, which mostly took place in the nineteen seventies and nineteen eighties, the adult sex toy shop was first known as “Adult Book Stores,” and with the introduction of the VHS the adult book store became the “Adult Video Store.” And of course, the adult book/video store is now most commonly known as the adult sex toy shop, thanks to the rise of really thrifty sex toys.
But just like back in the early days, the adult sex toy shop isn’t all about getting off with the help of battery operated devices. In today’s society, your local sex shop’s got a lot more to offer than back in yesteryear, and determining the best adult sex toy shop is all about dechipering which shop is going to offer the customer the biggest “bang” for their buck (pun intended) by offering the widest range of tools for sensuality. Some items offered at the best adult sex toy shop include:
• Adult pornography
• Sexy Lingerie
• Erotic Books
• Flavored and other assortments of condoms
• Dental Dams for performing cunnilingus
Babeland Might Be The Best Adult Sex Toy Shop
In recent years, women have grown tired of the “Boy Only-Girls Keep Out” membership that has marked the rise of the adult sex toy shop. By the mid-nineteen nineties, girls wanted the guys in the industry to know that, “Hey, we like to diddle with sex toys, too!” Plus, the quick move of the HIV/AIDS epidemic into every community in America since the early nineteen eighties made women more determined than ever to offer a “chick friendly” and educational approach to the best adult sex toy shop around. And from that dream Seattle’s own Toys In Babeland was born.
A variation on the name of an eighties Christmas flick starring Drew Barrymore, Toys In Babeland first opened in 1993 with Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning at the driver’s seat. The ladies wanted their shop to provide not only sex toys of the highest quality, but also sex tips, sexual discovery, sex education, sexual satisfaction, sexual passion, and ultimately a pleasant place to shop. Whether or not Babeland, which is what it is simply called now, is the best adult sex toy shop is up for grabs, but the company sure has enjoyed an upward swing since it first opened it’s doors nearly fourteen years ago now.
After just two years in business, Babeland started it’s own adult sex toy mail order catalog. By 1996, Babeland went digital with it’s own website. And more than a decade after that small step of moving online, Babeland has four locations:
• Seattle
• New York-Lower East Side
• New York-The SoHo Village
• Los Angeles
Babeland has been awarded with a number of accolades to set in stone it’s place as the best adult sex toy shop. The Village Voice and The Seattle Weekly both voted Babeland “The Best Place to Buy Sex Toys.” And a 2006 Zagat Survey found Babeland to be the “Best Shopping Experience In New York.”
